Lt. Thomas W. Forbes

Lt. Thomas W. Forbes

In honor of Lt. Thomas W. Forbes, 31 year police veteran of the City of Groton Police Department and the 241st class of the FBI National Academy. As a member of the International Association of Hostage Negotiators, Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association, Groton Adolescents Substance Abuse Prevention, co-chairman of the Function 4 Regional Emergency Management and Homeland Security and as the Dive Team Commander for over 20 years, Lt. Forbes dedicated his life to helping others and serving his community. He also developed numerous community outreach programs focusing on youth and hardship families in Groton. He was an avid runner and fitness enthusiast and one of his proudest accomplishments was not only finishing, but also being the ‘oldest’ law enforcement officers to finish the Yellow Brick Road Obstacle Course and Swim Challenge at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. Lt. Forbes passed away on June 6, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Leslie Forbes, two daughters, Lauren Forbes and Gina Forbes-Ferrel, her husband Matt Ferrel, and grandson, Chester-Thomas Forbes-Ferrel. Today we honor and remember Lt. Forbes, as well as all police officers that make sacrifices daily to protect and serve their communities.
